This explains what personal information I collect when you book or take guitar lessons with me, what I do with it, and what rights you have over it. I've tried to write it in plain English rather than legal language.
Who I am
I'm Matthew Annable, trading as Matthew Annable Music. I'm a sole trader and I'm the “data controller” for the information described here — which means I'm the person responsible for it.

What I collect, and why
When you enquire or book a lesson

When you pay

I never see or store your card details. Payments are handled by Stripe, who are responsible for that information themselves. I only receive confirmation that a payment was made, and the details listed above.
During and after lessons

About recording lessons specifically
I record lessons so I can produce your written summary and the practice clips. This runs on your consent, which means:
- You can say no, before we start or at any time afterwards, and lessons will carry on exactly as normal — you'll just get a summary written from my notes instead.
- You can change your mind at any point without giving a reason.
- If the student is under 18, I'll ask their parent or guardian to confirm they're happy with this before we begin.
Recordings are used only to support your own lessons. They aren't shared with other students, published anywhere, used in marketing, or used to train any AI system that learns from them.
Who else sees your information
I use a small number of services to run the lessons. Each of them only gets what it needs.

I don't sell your information to anyone, and I don't share it for advertising. I'd only pass it to anyone else if I were legally required to.
Some of these companies are based outside the UK, mainly in the United States, which means your information may be transferred there. They're all required to protect it to UK standards through the safeguards UK data protection law provides for.
How long I keep things

You can ask me to delete any of this sooner — see your rights below.
Cookies
This site doesn't set any cookies on your device, and there's no tracking or analytics on it. That's why you haven't been shown a cookie banner — there's nothing to consent to.
The only cookie the site uses at all is one that keeps me logged in to my own admin area, which never touches anyone visiting the site.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:
- Show you what information I hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your information, where I don't have to keep it for tax or legal reasons.
- Stop or limit what I'm doing with it.
- Send you a copy in a portable format, or send it to someone else.
- Object to my using it, where I'm relying on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent to lesson recording, at any time.
Just email me and I'll sort it out. I'll respond within one month, and there's no charge.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first — I'd like the chance to put it right.

Changes
If I change how I handle your information, I'll update this page and change the date at the top. If it's a significant change, I'll email existing students to let them know.
